Disney Cruise Rooms: How to Choose the Perfect Stateroom

disney cruise ship rooms

I prefer concierge – because of course I do – but our budget doesn’t allow us to drop that kind of money every time we go on a cruise. I’ve found something to love about all the Disney Cruise Line staterooms we’ve stayed in, so let’s take a dive into the different room types. It’s generally well-known that food is a big part of the cruise experience, and the Disney Dream is no exception. Inside staterooms are offered in standard and deluxe versions, with standard being the smaller of the two. The Disney Dream has 1,250 staterooms, most of which offer an outside view via either a porthole window or a verandah balcony. There are four primary types of staterooms on the ship; each of those four types is further divided into multiple categories and subcategories.

Goofy Golf and Sports Deck

Sometimes parents have the worry that their little ones are going to try and climb the balcony and fall overboard, so the oceanview sans balcony eliminates that situation. These luxe accommodations sleep six and have separate living areas and dining areas, and private hot tubs. The newest Royal Suites on the Disney Wish are Sleeping Beauty-themed.

How does rotational dining work?

Either way, you can stay in shape with the offerings at the Disney Dream’s onboard fitness center. Whatever your preferred equipment — weight machines, cardio equipment, ellipticals, treadmills, and others — you’re likely to find it here. If you prefer a group experience you can join a yoga, Pilates, or aerobics class.

Casual Dining on the Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Typically, once per cruise, the buffet will also offer churro Mickey waffles, which are a sweet take on the traditional breakfast dish. The dinner menu is similar to that of Palo on the other Disney ships, with a prix-fixe dinner starting at $50 and an a la carte option. The a la carte menu emphasizes steaks, with American prime cuts, Australian wagyu and Japanese Kobe and Miyazaki beef you can pair with one of five sauces. If you ask, you can also get a sauce flight to try all of the options with your steak. Dinner at the restaurant can be done as an a la carte meal where you pay for each item or a set cost prix-fixe menu for $50.

While all Disney Cruise Line staterooms are designed for comfort, some are more comfortable than others and may be worth the extra expense. Before we dive into the best Disney Cruise rooms, let’s go over some basic knowledge that you’ll need to start planning your perfect Disney Cruise cabin. On all ships, with the exception of accessible staterooms and category 8A’s on the Dream and Fantasy, everything in categories have split bathrooms. A split bathroom means there essentially two bathrooms which is so helpful with multiple people getting ready. One has a sink and toilet, and the other has a sink and tub/shower.

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah – Undersized, Obstructed View, or White Wall

For something sweet after dinner, try the creme brulee or opt for a classic Mickey ice cream bar, which can be ordered at any of the rotational dining options fleetwide even though it's not listed on the menu. With so many choices across the fleet, it can be confusing to know which restaurants are on which Disney ships. Category 3 staterooms are the last category to include concierge service.

One and Two-Bedroom Suites

When you enter the room, you’ll see a queen bed, a couch, a coffee table, and a combination desk/storage unit. There’s a curtain divider guests can use to close the bed off from the rest of the stateroom. The big difference between standard and deluxe is that the deluxe has a split bathroom. The split bathroom means a toilet and vanity separate from the shower and second sink. It’s a great feature and allows someone to be in the shower without holding someone up if they need to use the toilet. The extra square footage in the deluxe – about 50 feet – is all the split bathroom.

Disney Dream Itineraries and Home Ports

Much of Deck 5 on the Disney Dream is dedicated to spaces especially designed for younger passengers, and there are plenty of other youth-friendly spaces onboard. The shape alone clearly communicates this is designed for kids; The deeper zones of this still-shallow pool are shaped like the friendly face of everyone’s favorite pal, Mickey Mouse. Meanwhile, one of Mickey’s signature white gloves supports a bright yellow waterslide for kids aged 4 to 14 / height 38″ to 64″. There’s no additional charge to ride the AquaDuck, but you will have to wait in line.

Oceanview with Verandah

If you would like room service breakfast any night but the last night, you use this order form and hang it outside your door the night before. On top of the desk you will also find your Wave Phones if you use them. Underneath one side of the desk you will also find a small refrigerator. Though these rooms are spacious, they don’t come with the Concierge Services or dedicated check-in features. But, Oceanview Staterooms with Verandahs are the second most expensive type of room on the Disney Dream. Disney Cruise Lines are perfect for families looking to enjoy quality time together.

The Dream is significantly larger than the two original ships (Disney Magic and Disney Wonder) but is slightly smaller than the Disney Wish. A DCL verandah also offers extra visibility when at port or sailing through a particularly scenic area. It is a wonderful experience to stand on your verandah and breathe in the fresh ocean air. When selecting a stateroom, look for the little “doors” that open in between the cabins. If there are doors on the adjoining wall, that means it’s a connecting room. Connecting staterooms are two rooms that have a door between the adjoining wall.

Their team of experienced Disney travel agents will help you find the best itineraries at the lowest price, and there’s never an additional charge for their services. There is no FastPass, Lightning Lane, or Genie+ onboard the ship. Lines tend to be longest on Sea Days and shorter when the ship is in port. Riding earlier or later can also help avoid crowds – just don’t forget to check the operating hours each day in the Navigator app. This adults-only bar provides scenic views of iconic city skylines around the world. Thanks to a little Disney magic, the view out the “window” changes to a different city every fifteen minutes. A serene lounge on Deck 14 in the forward funnel (red smokestack).

As an Earmarked Diamond level Authorized Disney Vacation Planner, The Vacationeer has helped thousands of families just like yours make their Disney Cruise plans. Plugs – Good news, Disney learned from the Magic and Wonder’s lack of plugs and added a few more. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like they’re all over, but there are a few more these days! Disney has banned power strips, but bringing something like a multi-port USB charger usually helps us immensely. When you’re traveling with three adults and a teenager, USB chargers are like gold.

When it comes to Disney Cruise Line staterooms, the word “family” is going to mean a larger room that sleeps more people. Lounge perks include private sundecks, near round-the-clock access to nibbles, bottled sodas, bottled water, juices, and specialty coffees, and an open bar in the evenings. Perhaps you’re a regular exerciser, or maybe you just want to offset several days of all-you-can-eat meals.
